Henry Woolf

Shylock – The Merchant of Venice
Sir Hugh Evans – The Merry Wives of Windsor

Henry Woolf Henry Woolf has acted and directed for over fifty years (actors never have to retire!) His first job was touring Shakespeare in Ireland way back in 1957; The Merchant of Venice would you believe it, as Launcelot Gobbo. Now, a mere half-century later, he has graduated to playing Shylock! Henry taught at the University Of Saskatchewan Drama Department for fourteen years, retiring as Head in 1997. He served as Artistic Director of the Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan Festival for ten years from 1990 to 2000. Earlier this year Henry toured Ireland in Samuel Beckett's "Endgame" (He's kind of a Beckett freak after playing in Beckett's "Waiting for Godot" at Persephone Theatre last year). Henry would rather live and work in Saskatoon than anywhere else in the world and playing Shakespeare in a tent on the riverbank? Wow! What a great idea! Someone needs shaking by the hand!

Shakespeare is completely rebuilt from the ground up every summer.
